Our activities include information young people and their families of public services available to them. We also conduct research on child-serving systems, review and investigate public services, and are empowered by law to make formal recommendations to improve the effectiveness and responsiveness of Manitoba public services. We also hold the responsibility of monitoring and reporting on the implementation of recommendations made by the Manitoba Advocate.

MACY’s mandate includes:

Advocacy

Advocacy support for children, youth, and young adults up to 21 years of age in the areas of child welfare, adoption, disabilities, mental health, addiction, victim support services, domestic violence, sexual exploitation, youth justice, and education.

Child Death Reviews

Conduct a review and/or investigation of designated public services when a child, youth, or young adult up to 21 years of age dies and they, or their family received any reviewable public service within the previous year.

Research, Recommendations, and Public Release of Information

Conduct child-centred research, track compliance with recommendations made by the office, and inform the public on any matter as determined by the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth.
