Youth Engagement

The Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth (MACY) recognizes the unique gifts, strengths, and talents of young people and understands the importance of creating and facilitating opportunities for youth to lead change and strengthen communities through engagement that is meaningful for youth. Guided by the rights described in the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), MACY strives to protect these rights and believes that every child should have a say in decisions that affect their lives.

We engage youth through:

  • Youth Engagement Coordinators who engage young people from across Manitoba to provide input, advice, and feedback to create change and improve the effectiveness and responsiveness of services provided to children and youth in Manitoba;
  • Our Youth Ambassador Advisory Squad (YAAS) and the YAAS Support Squad ensure that youth have a voice throughout our office and our work around Manitoba;
  • Connecting with other organizations that focus on youth and attending youth-focused and youth-led events to hear what youth have to say;
  • Offering presentations about our work and about issues like children’s rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child to increase children’s and youth’s understandings of the rights they hold;
  • Focusing on topics and concerns that matter to children and youth; and
  • Ensuring all of our activities and reports reflect the truth of how children and youth view and experience the world.
